As part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve PPEC's electrical system and support the development of our fiber internet project, several contractors will be working in our service territory this year.
Osmose Utilities Services
Over the next three years, PPEC's contractor Osmose Utility Services, will conduct a system-wide equipment assessment, including joint-use pole audits. These audits ensure that poles shared with other utilities (such as for internet, phone, or cable attachments) comply with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) clearances and prevent hazards from overloaded equipment or wire interactions. The work will also update mapping and provide crucial data for the design and construction of PPEC's upcoming fiber system. Contractors will use vehicles marked with PPEC's logo.
Through mid-2025, Osmose is working in the Latty, Roselm, Ottoville, Ft. Jennings, Van Wert, Convoy, Tillman, and Rt. 14 substation areas. They will assess poles in Paulding, Van Wert, Putnam, and Allen counties (Ohio) in 2025, Putnam and Defiance counties (Ohio) in 2026, and Allen and Adams counties (Indiana) in 2027.
National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC)
Starting January 6, 2025, the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC) will be working as a fielding contractor for PPEC's fiber internet project. NRTC will handle the fielding of proposed fiber locations on poles and along underground areas within rights-of-ways and along existing easements. Specific areas of work will be announced soon, and like Osmose, NRTC contractors will be authorized and visible in our service territory.
We will keep members updated on progress throughout the process. If you have any questions, please call our office at 800-686-2357.
