Tim Derck represents PPEC Board District 3, Carryall, Benton, and Harrison Townships in Paulding County, Ohio. As well as Jefferson, Jackson, and Maumee Townships in Allen County, Indiana. (See the district map online here.)
He grew up in Antwerp, where he currently lives with his wife and “Falcon Flame” Lisa. The term comes from meeting at Bowling Green State University during college and then getting married. They raised three children, who are now married with four grandsons, a grand dog, and a horse. He has worked for the family-owned business Antwerp Insurance Agency, Inc. since 1980, as well as the family’s grain farm.
How do you spend your free time?
When I have spare time from the office and farming, I love to snowmobile and snow ski. We like to spend a lot of time at Hamilton Lake hanging out, boating, fishing, and enjoying family and friends. Oh, Lisa and I play pickleball. Lots of pickleball!
What is a fun or little-known fact about yourself?
I have been an Antwerp Rotarian for almost 30 years. Most people know me because I am usually an open book. What you see and hear is what you get.
Why did you want to become a PPEC trustee?
To honor my grandfather, Dub Zuber, who was a trustee in the late 70s and 80s. I wanted to serve our communities and members.
Why do you think people should be involved in their electric company?
After 19 years of service for PPEC as a board trustee, I am always amazed at how much I learn from the co-op family that I can use in my professional and personal life. We all are members and owners, not just consumers of our electrical cooperative.
What do you love most about your community?
The local, state, and national co-op family is an AMAZING family! Living in NW Ohio and its small communities is the best for a lot of things, but mostly the best to raise your family and see it grow! I also love our freedoms, which we should never take for granted.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a farmer and in the insurance business be like my Dad.
What’s a saying/motto you live by?
faith, hope, and love along with honest, integrity, and service to others.
What future concerns do you have about the electric industry?
I have many concerns, one being too much government intervention. Cooperatives need left alone so we can do our job providing safe, affordable, and quality electricity.
