PPEC Lineman Jay Denny celebrated his retirement after 24 dedicated years of service to the co-op. Though we will miss seeing him around PPEC, we wish him all the best in this next chapter of his life. Please enjoy this Q&A with Jay reflecting on his career: 

How did you first come to work at PPEC? 

I was hired by Floyd Furrow in 2000. I heard there was an opening. I applied for it, kept inquiring about it, and then Floyd hired me. I wanted to work here because I worked at a factory for six years, and being inside wasn't for me.

How has the co-op changed during your career? 

We've made a lto of progress, especially when it comes to safety and technology. Safety is prioritized today, and we have one of the best lineworker training facilities around with COLT. PPEC has also become more computerized, as many of our processes are electronic for efficiency. 

What are some of your fondest memories? 

Some of my fondest memories are working through the tornadoes, ice storms, and derechos, and going to out-of-town co-ops in other parts of Ohio when they needed extra help during storm calls. I also enjoyed meeting members with the same calling and helping others. 

Any pieces of wisdom to share? 

Don't get in a hurry; do the job safely and correct the first time. Be cautious of your surroundings, and always be prepared.

How do you plan to spend your retirement? 

I'm planning on spending more time at our family cottage - boating, golfing, bowling, more time on our motorcycle, and time with our four grandchildren.
